It’s Day 4 and time to share with you a book that changed my life, Paolo Coelho’s The Alchemist. I bought this book after I watched an American chat show and saw how passionate Will Smith was about reading it.
Good Reads describe the tale as:
This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within.
I’ve literally just finished reading the book and I think the overall word I would use to describe how it made me feel is content. It made me realise that no matter what I need to keep following my ‘personal legend’. I must not give up when times are hard because that is simply part of the process. It will all work out in the end.
It also made me realise that all the bullshit that we think is important, really doesn’t matter. What matters is following your heart and soul. You can’t ignore what is going on in your heart no matter how hard you try.
Like Will, I feel like a different person after reading The Alchemist and I would advise anyone who ever doubts themselves or their purpose in life to give it a read.
It really will help you.
